08 Jan MaxSym 600i ABS
When commuting to work and back or for leisure purposes, let’s allow ourselves the opportunity to explore a bit. This was my main reason for testing the MAXSYM 600i ABS from the SYM scooter range. I believe it’s one of the most under rated forms of transport for motorcyclists. Although it is obvious the MAXSYM falls within the scooter range, I can’t help but feel it has the best of both worlds. You get the comfort from a scooter, yet the stability and power of a typical 600cc motorcycle. Another reason why I wanted to explore the SYM range is because of their reputable and obvious reliability within the industry over the last couple of years
SYM was initially brought in by Suzuki SA but since KMSA Distributors took the brand over it has grown from strength to strength. “SYM is the brand that embodies Sanyang’s insistence on human touch and product quality. The Company has been listening to the needs of customers, utilizing professionalism and advanced technologies to realize her dream of ideal riding experience. Sanyang will never compromise her brand promise, “Marvelous Technology and Marvelous Life”, nor will she forsake the commitment that customers will see her increasingly refined products and services in every step she takes. Sanyang Motor Co., Ltd., founded in 1954, is the sole international enterprise in Taiwan that manufactures both motorcycles and automobiles”.
While commuting in town, I found the MAXSYM surprisingly light and easy to turn. Looking at it you may think it’s big and heavy and in some cases the seating feels like you need a passenger to fill the space behind you. But this is yet another reason why it’s actually great. You can comfortably ride on your own in town or pick up a pillion and enjoy the open road with its light weight in collaboration with its power. The 565c.c single cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, fuel-injected engine get a perfect balance of excellent acceleration that is generally considered ‘missing’ on a scooter. Especially when accelerating from robot to robot. In this case you will find it to be the complete opposite. You are able to stay ahead of the traffic in town and ride with or without your pillion on the highway with absolute ease while enjoying the speed limit and/or having enough power to overtake when necessary
I found the styling to be sporty yet chick with great convenience as well. The Red-stitched “MAXSYM” characters and Red circle on the black rim (sporty version only) compliments a modern and sporty look. The stepped dual seat is not only super comfortable, it has space for two full face helmets or traveling bags if you feel like touring a bit. For work purposes its great storage for your laptop or even a gym bag to fit in some training as well. The Abs and floatable disks provide a stable brake system on the MAXSYM 600i that allows for controlled and efficient braking on low and high speed riding. SYM is taking it another step further and investing long term into the product appearance to help consumers with clear product identification. If you look at the curve shape headlight and the LED eyebrows, you will notice SYM revealing its hegemonic appearance on the MAXSYM 600i Abs
Compare to its competitors the MAXSYM 600i ABS is extremely well priced at the current price tag of R84 995. When faced with the challenge of affordability, comfort and the need for enough power, I believe the MAXSYM 600i ABS is truly a great commuter to consider. If you’ve never taken one of these for a test ride, maybe it’s time! Find a dealer closest to you here
