08 Jan Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro
When opening the throttle of the Multistrada 1200 Enduro, you are reminded of the fact that you are enjoying Ducati technology, performance and comfort. The burst of power is instant and ‘rugged’ just the way I like it but more importantly is the true Italian sound that never disappoints! Ducati understands the importance of being seen and heard. It’s the Italian way, who am I to argue 160 hp at 9500 rpm and 136 Nm of torque at 7500 rpm. Even at just 3500 rpm the available torque is already 100 Nm and remains near-constant, exceeding 110 Nm between 5,000 and 10,000 rpm. If you are not a numbers person, my advice is just enjoy this bike for all it seems on appearance and promises in performance. If you are tall enough (this may pose a challenge for short riders) it’s worth visiting Ducati for a test ride to find out how they have combined traditional Ducati values in terms of advanced technology and high-performance, with long-range touring capabilities and true off-road ability
Generally when people refer to ‘innovative technology’ we get excited because it’s important to stay with the times. But I can tell you that new innovative technology on some and actually most new bikes these days, are more ‘techno’ than we can manage. Before taking a bike for testing we generally get a briefing on its new advantages, why it’s the best and how it works. Most of that info is forgotten once you throw your leg over the bike. In this case I was most impressed with how user friendly the Multistrada 1200 Enduro technology is. From the personalised riding modes, to the actual App designed for a more interactive and educational riding experience. The Multistrada link app allows riders to record and review their riding experience e.g.; Speed, lean angle, power, fuel consumption and much more. This app allows for a more engaging riding experience.
Some riders prefer to just start the engine, choose a specific mode for the type of terrain and leave the rest up to the bike. Others prefer having the option to go into more detail. For example if you select the enduro mode, you will be able to set the suspension according to your personal wants and needs. You have the ability to completely personalise the motorcycles handling in each of these modes
These riding modes are: (click here for some more information on the different modes)
SPORT mode: Torque of 136 Nm and a sport-style suspension set up. This Riding Mode is also characterised by reduced Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) intervention. With ABS set to Level 2
TOURING mode: maximum power is 160 hp but delivery is smooth and progressive. Active safety is enhanced by higher Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) intervention levels. The ABS is set to interaction Level 3
ENDURO mode: The Ducati Traction Control (DTC) system settings ensure maximum off-road grip and acceleration, while the Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) is disengaged, as are the cornering and ABS functions on the rear wheel so that it can be locked. The ABS is set to interaction level 1
URBAN mode: Reduced the power to 100 hp and suspension settings that let the rider overcome frequently encountered urban obstacles such as bumps and manhole covers with ease. DTC and DWC settings are set high while ABS is set to the “Safe & Stable” Level 3
Sport Pack: The package comprises type-approved Ducati Performance exhaust by Termignoni (complies with EU homologation requisites), carbon fibre front mudguard, billet aluminium front brake fluid and clutch fluid reservoir caps.

Whilst looking the part is important, let’s not forget about safety. Ducati gives top priority to safety with their Ducati Safety Pack (DSP) that is offered standard throughout the Multistrada 1200 range. The DSP includes brembo state of the art brakes as well as 8 levels of Ducati Traction Control (DTC) settings for your riding experience level designed for personalised superior control. Taking some one on one time with this Ducati was worth every second. However I also shared this experience with a pillion. After all The Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro is well known for its touring capabilities and all terrain abilities. With this motorcycle you can write your own rules of adventure, with or without a pillion!
